Fall is here, which means Saturdays are packed with one of my favorite events, football!!! The energy, the rivalries, the game-changing plays⦠itās electric. But hereās the thing: engagement isnāt just for the gridiron. Itās the secret weapon for success in both your personal and professional life.
As I talk about in my SNAP Series book ā Navigate and Master the Playbook for Lifeās Game-Changing MomentsĀ - life has a way of throwing us into high-pressure situations. The question isnāt if the ball will snap, but howĀ youāll respond when it does.
šļøĀ Engagement at Work: Suit Up for the Team
Think of your workplace as a team.
Some days youāre the quarterback - calling plays, making big decisions.
Other days youāre on special teams - doing the less flashy but equally critical work.
Engagement isnāt about being the busiest player on the field. Itās about:
Knowing the playbookĀ (the mission and goals).
Trusting your teammatesĀ (collaboration and culture).
Showing up on game dayĀ (bringing energy and focus).
Engaged employees donāt just run the plays - they change the game.
š”Ā Engagement in Life: Keep Your Head in the Game
At home, in friendships, or even in community spaces, engagement looks different but feels just as vital. Itās about:
Listening like a coach with a headsetĀ - tuned in, not distracted. (Stop multitasking, set the phone down, and really listen to what your team needs).
Cheering for othersā touchdownsĀ - celebrating wins, big or small. (Be your teamsā biggest fan).
Playing offense, not just defense - taking initiative instead of reacting to problems. (Plan, prioritize, do).
Lifeās best moments arenāt the highlight reels you watch later. Theyāre the real-time plays where youāre fully present actually breathing in the moment.
šĀ The SNAP Series Lesson
In my SNAP Series, I compare life to the snap of a football: sudden, unpredictable, and packed with potential. The players who succeed are the ones who stay engaged - reading the defense, adjusting quickly, and executing with purpose. Engagement in life works the same way. The more tuned in you are, the more game-changing your moments can be.
šĀ Game Plan: Quick Engagement Drills
Huddle Up: Start meetings or family dinners with a quick check-in.
Call an Audible: If something isnāt working, change the play instead of forcing it.
Review the Tape: Reflect on your day, where were you most engaged? Least engaged?
Celebrate End Zones: Recognize progress, not just perfection.
šÆĀ Final Whistle
Whether itās in the office, at home, or out in the community, engagement is the game where Ā youāre not just running plays but actually moving the ball towards the end zone.
This season, while youāre cheering for your favorite team, remember: Life has already snapped the ball. The question is, are you engaged in the play?
